  • ¼ cup strawberry jam (optional for topping) Adds an extra fruity layer.

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar Adds sweetness and a beautiful finish.
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract For an aromatic finishing touch.
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk To achieve the perfect glaze consistency.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, toss the sliced strawberries with cornstarch and sugar, allowing them to sit and mingle.
  • In another bowl, mix together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). While it heats up, cut your puff pastry sheets into 4x4 inch squares.

Assembly

  • Take each puff pastry square and place a generous spoonful of the cream cheese mixture and the strawberry mixture right in the center.
  • Fold the edges of each square over the filling to create a pocket, ensuring to seal them well. Brush the top with the egg wash and sprinkle some sugar on top for an added crunch.

Baking

  • Bake the Danish in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and puffed up beautifully.

Glazing

  • While the pastries are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth and pourable.
  • Once the Danish are out of the oven and slightly cooled, drizzle with the glaze and serve while warm.

Notes

Letting the cream cheese soften at room temperature not only makes mixing easier but also results in a smoother filling. For a flakier pastry, ensure that the puff pastry is as cold as possible before baking. Experiment with different fruits, such as blueberries or raspberries, for a different twist on this recipe.
