Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine the warm milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large bowl, mix granulated sugar, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Add the yeast mixture and eggs, whisk well.
  • Gradually mix in flour and salt until a dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes.
  • Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour.
  • In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • After the dough rises, roll it out and spread the cinnamon mixture evenly, adding raisins or chocolate chips.
  • Roll dough into a log and cut into 12 pieces. Let rise for another 30 minutes in a greased dish.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  • Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze.
  • Drizzle glaze over rolls once cooled slightly, adding food coloring if desired.

Notes

For softer rolls, let them rise in a warmed oven. Feel free to add more spices or different fillings for a unique twist.
