  • 2 cups all-purpose flour gives the biscuits that perfect, velvety texture.

For the gravy

  • 1 pound sausage (spicy or mild) providing savory, juicy flavor.
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour (for gravy), thickening the luscious sauce.
  • 2 cups milk (whole or 2%) creating a creamy and rich base for the gravy.
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder infusing aromatic depth.
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder adding a subtle sweetness.
  • to taste salt and black pepper rounding out the flavor profile.

Optional garnish

  • fresh parsley or chives for garnish, bringing a pop of color and freshness.

Instructions
 

Preparation of Biscuits

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 0.5 teaspoon of salt. Whisk until well mixed.
  • Cut in 0.25 cup of cold, cubed butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually pour in 1 cup of buttermilk, stirring gently until just combined.
  • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently until it comes together, then pat to about 1 inch thick.
  • Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or the rim of a glass and transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake the biscuits for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.

Preparation of Gravy

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Sprinkle 0.25 cup of flour over the cooked sausage and stir to create a roux, cooking for another minute.
  • Gradually stir in 2 cups of milk while adding garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer until the gravy thickens, about 5-10 minutes.

Serving

  • Take the warm biscuits out of the oven, split them in half, and spoon the sausage gravy on top.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley or chives, if desired.

Notes

For ultimate biscuit perfection, ensure your butter is very cold. Leftover biscuits can be reheated in the oven to keep them crispy.
