Ingredients
  

Meatloaf Mixture

  • 2 pounds ground beef Provides the meatloaf's tender texture.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Holds everything together.
  • 1 piece egg Binds the mixture.
  • ½ cup milk Adds moisture.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Seasoning.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Seasoning.
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper Seasoning.

Cheesesteak Twist

  • 1 piece green bell pepper Diced for flavor.
  • 1 small onion Diced for sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing vegetables.
  • 8 slices provolone cheese 4 for the filling, 4 for topping.

Garnish

  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley For a pop of color.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced green bell pepper and onion, and cook for about five minutes until softened.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix by hand until well incorporated.

Assembly

  • Press half of the meat mixture into a loaf pan to create a base.
  • Place 4 slices of provolone cheese over this meat layer.
  • Spoon the sautéed veggies over the cheese layer.
  • Top with the remaining meat mixture, pressing down firmly.

Baking

  • Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes.
  • In the last five minutes of baking, add the remaining 4 slices of provolone cheese on top.

Serving

  • Allow the meatloaf to rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Tips: Let the meatloaf rest after baking to retain juices. Use a meat thermometer to check for an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
