For the gravy

  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth Ensures a flavorful gravy.
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour Thickens the gravy.
  • 2 tbsp olive oil Used to sear the patties.

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, gently combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  • Shape the mixture into oval patties, about 3/4 inch thick.

Cooking

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and sear them for about 4 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Remove the patties and set them aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the flour to the drippings left behind and whisk to create a roux, cooking for about a minute.
  • Gradually stir in the beef broth, whisking continuously until the gravy thickens to your liking.
  • Return the patties to the skillet, ensuring they’re covered in gravy. Allow to simmer for about 5 minutes.

Serving

  • Serve hot, drizzled with gravy, and paired with your favorite sides like creamy mashed potatoes or buttered noodles.

Notes

For a healthier alternative, consider using lean ground turkey or chicken, whole wheat breadcrumbs, or adding grated vegetables to the mixture. Adjust seasoning and let the gravy simmer to enhance flavors.
