Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt to ensure even distribution.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Add the vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips and nuts, if desired.
  • Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan and press down gently.

Baking

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra layer of flavor, consider browning the butter before adding it to the sugar mixture. Experiment with different types of chocolate chips or mix in dried fruits or toffee bits for variations. To make thicker bars, use a smaller baking pan.
