Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked white rice fluffy and warm
  • 2 cups cooked chicken shredded or diced, succulent and tender
  • 2 cups broccoli florets steamed or blanched to crispy perfection
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter rich and creamy
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour for creating that velvety sauce
  • 1.5 cups milk for a smooth and luscious base
  • 1 cup heavy cream enhancing the creaminess to another level
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shredded, offering a tangy kick
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder aromatic and flavorful
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder adding depth to the dish
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt to balance the flavors
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper providing a hint of heat
  • 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese for a golden crust
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs for that crispy topping
  • Cooking spray to ensure a non-stick finish

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
  • Steam or blanch the broccoli florets until tender-crisp, about 3 minutes. Drain well and set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and let it bubble for about a minute.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens, about 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat to low and add 1½ cups of shredded cheddar cheese, stirring until melted. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice, chicken, broccoli, and cheese sauce. Mix until well-coated.
  • Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  • Sprinkle remaining cheddar cheese and grated Parmesan cheese on top, then add breadcrumbs.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding bacon bits or sautéed onions. For a lighter version, use half milk instead of heavy cream. You can also substitute rotisserie chicken for convenience.
