  • 1 tbsp Fresh parsley, chopped adding freshness
  • 1 dish Mashed potatoes for serving
  • 1 dish Green beans or your favorite veggie for serving

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs and milk. Let this sit for about five minutes, allowing the panko to absorb the milk's moisture.
  • Incorporate the ground beef, lightly beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, grated onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix these ingredients gently, taking care not to overwork the beef.
  • Shape the mixture into 4-6 equal-sized patties.

Cooking the Patties

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Once the oil is shimmering, place the patties in the skillet and cook them for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  • Transfer the patties to a plate and cover them with foil to keep warm.

Making the Gravy

  • Reduce the heat to medium and add the butter to the skillet.
  • As it melts, toss in the sliced onions and sauté until they are softened and slightly caramelized.
  • Add the mushrooms, cooking until they’re tender.
  • Finally, stir in the minced garlic and cook until it's fragrant.

Thickening the Gravy

  • Sprinkle the flour over the cooked vegetables in the skillet and stir for about 2 minutes to cook off the raw flour taste.
  • Gradually whisk in the beef broth, followed by the Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  • Let this mixture simmer for several minutes until it thickens to your desired consistency.

Final Assembly

  • Return the cooked patties to the skillet, letting them soak in the gravy for 8-10 minutes.
  • If you'd like, stir in heavy cream for added richness, ensuring it has melded completely into the gravy.
  • To plate your dish, arrange the patties on a plate, generously drizzling them with the gravy. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley.
  • Serve alongside creamy mashed potatoes and green beans, or your favorite vegetable.

Notes

For best results, use a non-stick skillet to ensure that nothing sticks while cooking the patties. You can prepare the patties in advance and freeze them. Cooking times will vary if using different types of meat.
